On January 31, 2012 Mozilla released version 10 of the popular browser Firefox. Some important bugs have been corrected and other facilities were launched.I name a few of them:

Anti-Aliasing for WebGL is now implemented
CSS3 3D-Transforms are now supported
The forward button is now hidden until you navigate back
Full Screen APIs allow you to build a web application that runs full screen

Here's a pretty exciting news for developers.Qt, the cross-platform application and user interface framework, is available in version 4.8.0 under fedora 16.The new Ot has the threaded OpenGL support.Under Fedora 16 , we have the development packages:

Protect your root account.

I will present a solution to protect the root account, quite funny but still elegant.
You can read about the command trap using : man trap.
What is this command?
when the specified event will occur will execute the command specified.
In this case, it will receive signal respectively will execute one command - exit
The the source code.


 protect()

The result will be leaving the root account if you do not answer the question correctly.

Qt Developer Days 2011

At 08 November, 2011 the oficial website has announced:
Qt SDK brings the SDK build targets to the level of the latest Symbian devices and the Nokia N9. It also introduces right-to-left and pinch area support (Qt 4.7.4 / Qt Quick 1.1) and new NFC (near field communication) and Bluetooth APIs (Qt Mobility 1.2)
Also it seemed very interesting the demos from Qt Developer Days 2011 Munich.

Interesting is that they came over 900 members of the Qt Community descended on Munich for the first half of Qt Developer Days.
Anyway the bad news : Desktop Mobility is not included at the moment.

Android ARM Assembly by Vikram Aggarwal

Today I read an interesting article about Android.
The article is written by the developers Vikram Aggarwal , software engineer at Google.
This article - tutorial consists in a series on learning ARM assembly on Android.
Its subject is "...calling Assembly code from Android applications".
The tutorial contains the necessary source code and details for the reader to understand how it works.
For those who have never used Gas (GNU Assembler), this article is of interest much.
I wonder if there is anyone interested in the Fedora community to write Android applications.

Creating folders and documents with gdata module

Today I played with gdata python module.
The problem that I solved it:
creating folders and documents in your Gmail account.
First you need to install gdata module.
In fedora I used:

yum install python-gdata.noarch

Here are the first lines of source code that creates a folder named test-fedora

Fedora and laptops - only a brief look ...

Today I looked on the internet to see a laptop for me.
I've seen some good models in price / quality.
Then I remembered that someone had compatibility problems with a Dell laptop, which accept only Vista drivers.
I found the link, but unfortunately the list is small and outdated.

I think that would be an important step in promoting Fedora if we update this page.
I'm sure most of us have installed Fedora on the laptop.
When installing Fedora , we can send hardware profile to Fedora Team.
If data on computers that can run Fedora would be available, users would receive real help.
On the other hand, I saw several laptops that are available in stores various operating systems.
Unfortunately it's just a fantasy..Why?
Here is a clear example of store : a turnover of euro 102 million in 2010 , see image:

This is not an error in the database selection, is just a trick to not take questions.
It's pathetic.

Firefox sync - sinking ?

Today I tried to use firefox sync.
I do not remember if I had user account , but I tried to make a password reset.
I do not know if the same thing happens on Windows, but on Fedora I received a strange thing ....
I assumed that it is a cookie, but it is not normal.
Maybe someone can tell what it is ...

The myth of drop_caches

I will try to clarify the myth about drop_caches.

This along with other settings can be made in the folder /proc/sys/vm/ .

First, the files in this directory can be used to tune the operation
of the virtual memory (VM) subsystem of the Linux kernel and also to
writeout of dirty data to disk.

About drop_caches we can say that is only one of the options and not only make
causes the kernel to drop clean caches, and dentries inodes from memory,
the result causing that memory to become free.

We have three basic options :

to free pagecache: echo 1 > /proc/sys/vm/drop_caches
to free dentries and inodes: echo 2 > /proc/sys/vm/drop_caches
to free pagecache, dentries and inodes: echo 3 > /proc/sys/vm/drop_caches

Note that user should run sync first.

What happens then?

The answer is also simple and clear.

If you drop the cache than the CPU load go up.This happen because the cache is gone.

Also available RAM goes up, because the cache is empty.

Logical , the performance will suffer because you are not taking advantage of the cache.

Then over time, the caches will fill and this is a good thing, if you don't instruct Linux to drop the caches.

In reality dropping caches has little positive effect on performance, but in fact, it tends to have a negative effect in long term.

I hope I have correctly understood and explained, so if you think it is not, I wait your feedback.

Fighting Blender, NVIDIA and GNOME ...

Today I spent some time with Blender, NVIDIA and GNOME ...

Since I did preupdate and put Fedora 15, the system worked well until today.

Today I tried to relax a bit with Blender 3D, but ...

Then I tried to see what glxinfo says.

Now I have the old gnome, slightly improved but it works flawlessly with Blender 3D...

What things should be fixed quickly ?

Here are some things that should be repaired. 
There are minor things or less, but make life a misery. There are things that generate more questions and more errors on the Internet. 
This is an epidemic of questions there just because they are not repaired.

1. Google must give the possibility to download video files updated...
2. Python modules gdata do not work for all versions... ( and many modules has same problem)
3. Python module ftplib does not know about SFTP , just FTP
4. Too many compilers for C and C + + and lack of advanced tutorials for setting them, especially gcc on windows
5. Social networks Spam filling our mail.

I accidentally discovered an error.
I sent feedback to Google, I hope to resolve quickly.
The problem is with the word "include" is a word used in the Romanian language and means "include".

Who says penguins are weak? 
Linux is a good system if it is used by smart people. 
Since ancient times people are born with penguins.
It seems that dinosaurs could not survive, but the Penguins have managed well.
They became smaller but everyone loves them.

Nokia SDK and MIDlet

Yesterday I played with the SDK from Nokia. Do you think that it's easy to create a MIDlet . Finally I managed to make an application "Helllo World'.
Maybe I'll write a little tutorial in the near future when I'll know more about MIDlets and java.

Blender 3D and F14 killed by "Save as"

It seems that the "yum" and "fakeroot" do not get along too well. I did not understand why ... Here is output:

Fedora 14 and NVIDIA FX5200

Today i set video driver on Fedora 14. 
I have a FX5200 and i use akmod to make this working .
First when i install akmod with :
yum install kmod-nvidia-173xx-2.6.35.6-48.fc14.i686.PAE.i686
I have some errors:
$ glxinfo | grep direct

Fedora 14 versus 3D software .

In the next few days ago I decided to try  software 3d with Fedora 14.
I am disappointed again. I was expecting some improvements in this area by the developers.
Especially because it is a difficult topic.
But let's see why I have this impression...
I have searched for packages that are required with this command:

Code:: Blocks does not work with Ogre 3D or Irrlicht 3D packages. Although I spent quite a long time. However on Windows XP this combination worked well.
Ember game working hard. Maybe because my video card - FX5200, not really likes the new drivers.
Code:: Blocks is very stubborn. Ogre and Irrlicht Wizards of the Linux version of Code:: Blocks does not work at all.


Savage Server and Selinux under Fedora 14

If you want to install fedora Savage Game Server 14, you will have problems with SELinux.

Today I focused on the F-Spot 0.8.0. I knew that contains a database that keeps information about the pictures.
I found the database and tried a few commands:
$ cd .config/
$ cd f-spot/

Once I found database, I started SQLite3. See the example below:

Linux and denial of service - DoS

A denial-of-service attack (DoS attack) or distributed denial-of-service attack (DDoS attack) is an attempt to make a computer resource unavailable to its intended users.
We can see more on wiki

On Linux we can see if an attack is attempted with this:

netstat -ant | grep SYN_RECV | wc -l
This is an indication of a denial of service (DoS) attack against your system's X port .

It is likely one atack against a public service such as a web server or mail server .

I tried to use Fedora 14 Gok to login after I logged with gokand selinux warned me about: gok trying to access /var/games, gok using NIS (yp), preventing /usr/bin/gok "read" access on /var/account and preventing /usr/bin/gok "read" access on /var/www. Is it Gok evil or not !?

We use the following command
$ notify-send  "This is some text"

This will display a text balloon "This is some text".
The problem appears when we want to display the output of a command.
For this I used a python script. Here's the source code:

If you wish to use a compound command, then you will need to use quotes.

This is just a small example, you can create more complex applications.


How  Install Firefox 4 on Fedora 14.

Firefox is one of the latest versions of the Mozilla .
It is currently available in two  repositories - Remi and Spot.
See the next steps if you want install Firefox 4.
First , go on super user shell.
# wget http://repos.fedorapeople.org/repos/spot/firefox4/fedora-firefox4.repo -O /etc/yum.repos.d/fedora-firefox4.repo
Now, you can install Firefox 4
# yum --enablerepo fedora-firefox4 install firefox4
That is all.



Fedora 14 and Blender 3D

It is a great disappointment to me that Fedora 14 comes with Blender 3D version 2.49b-10.
I expected a pleasant surprise to see version 2.5.
Here is the result:

Some time ago, I discovered python. Then I saw that he can work with the OpenOffice. Today I will briefly introduce how to do this. I do this in Windows XP, and windows users could benefit. We can use add, update and send mail with info about your linux machine.

Create html file with bash script using awk

We will present a more special method of using the Linux command line.
This method comes in helping those who need to text or html content.
In fact a combination of Linux commands to get an output.
Suppose we have a list of jpeg files in folder image.
They should exist in to html to be displayed.
As we know an image has the form:
 <img src="image/name_of_jpeg.jpg" alt="" /> 
The list of file is :
11.jpg,12.jpg,13.jpg,14.jpg,15.jpg
My method uses two commands : ll and awk.
First, I will display files:
 $ ll | awk '/jpg/ {print $9}'
11.jpg
12.jpg
13.jpg
14.jpg
15.jpg 
I created one variable f1 .
In these variables put the beginning of each line:
 f1=‘<img src="image‘; 
We add two sed commands.
First remove the space before the file name.
The second will add the rest to complete the link.
The xargs command is used with echo and print the first part of the link.
Finally we use <<< aaaa.html to output the HTML file.

Sunflow rendering on Fedora 13

How to install Sunflow ?
It's pretty simple. Download the zip archive from here.
Unzip and edit the sh script sunflow.sh
from the sunflow folder.
By default the script is :

#/bin/sh

mem=1G

java -Xmx$mem -server -jar sunflow.jar $*
If we run this script will have this error :

$ sh sunflow.sh 
Invalid maximum heap size: -Xmx1G
Could not create the Java virtual machine.
The solution is:

$ whereis java
java: /usr/bin/java ...
Now change the script :

/usr/bin/java -Xmx1024M -server -jar sunflow.jar $*
And run it ...

$ sh sunflow.sh

Makehuman 3D on Fedora

Makehuman software installation is simple.You must be super user, and then use yum:

It will automatically install animorph-0.3-6.fc12.i686.
A negative aspect of Fedora 13 is the lack of 3D softwares:Moonlight, Sunflow, Blender 2.5 or Loki Render .
It looks like 3D graphics programs are not a priority.

Today I tried to run game "Yo Frankie."
The computer used in this case is older.
It has an FX 5200 video card with 1Gb RAM and processor ASUS motherboard.
I was not expecting a success but he did seem somewhat.

Sometimes you have to rename files.
This can be tiring when we do it manually.
Command "sed" may be helpful in this case.
I'll take a simple example. I will create a working directory called "work."
We have to create files with the command:

I wrote a python module. I called it "geo" because it is a geographic module.
The funny stuff is when i use it with "Santa Claus".
